The two-day briefing on the prospects and challenges of Educational Tourism with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Tourism

The Nicosia Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company within its framework act entitled “EduTourism – Highlighting educational tourism for the promotion of natural and cultural heritage”, organized on 6 and 7 April 2023 two-day information session regarding Educational Tourism at the University of Nicosia.

During the two-day conference, important organizations presented and informed them participants regarding various aspects of Educational Tourism abroad but also in Cyprus. The presence of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kostas Koumi, was important, where during his speech he emphasized that projects like EduTourism will bring about significant benefits to various citizen groups and cooperation between countriesdetermined as important for achieving common goals.

At the same time, he emphasized that educational tourism is obviously an area that needs further research and design while requiring collegiality and collaborations that transcend local boundaries.

In addition, during the two-day conference, “Trends and Innovations” were presented in Educational Tourism” by Ms. Gianna Orfanidou (University of Nicosia), the “Promotion of Cyprus as an ideal educational tourism destination” by Ms. Evi Zambetakis (University Partnerships University of Nicosia Global Semesters-Director), “How authentic culinary opportunities contribute to unforgettable experiences tourism” by Dr. Helena Williams (Mohammed VI Polytechnic University), “Cyprus as an educational destination for Erasmus+ Program participants” by Dr. Stylianos Mavromoustakos (IDEP lifelong learning) while the three indicative educational tourism routes in Cyprus were also presented

The two-day event was implemented within the framework of the EduTourism operation, which is implemented by corporate structure of six entities in Greece and Cyprus, including ETAP of Nicosia as follows: National Youth Council (Greece), Four Elements (Greece),Hellenic Mediterranean University (Greece), Municipality of Archana – Asterousia (Greece) and Development Company of Larnaca (Cyprus). The implementation of the act has started on June 2021 and has a total duration of 24 months (until May 2023).

The act has total budget of €1,711,672.00 and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and from National Resources of Greece and Cyprus. The act is implemented within the framework of the Cross-Border Cooperation Program Interreg V-A Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020.
