The Nicosia Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company participates as
beneficiary in the deed entitled “EduTourism – Promotion of educational tourism for
the promotion of natural and cultural heritage”. The act is implemented by
corporate structure of six entities in Greece and Cyprus, including ETAP
of Nicosia as follows: National Youth Council (Greece), Four Elements (Greece),
Hellenic Mediterranean University (Greece), Municipality of Archana – Asterousia (Greece)
and Development Company of Larnaca (Cyprus).
The EduTourism act aims to promote natural and cultural heritage,
through the development and creation of an integrated educational product
tourism which on the one hand will strengthen the cultural profile and natural heritage of the two
destinations, and on the other hand it aims to achieve specific teachers
results. The individual specific objectives of the project are analyzed as follows:
- Creation of an educational tourism product that highlights the natural
cultural heritage and extends the tourist season - Create a training program for trainers, teachers and
tourism professionals to ensure the sustainability of
project results - Creation of a platform that will aim to create an online
community to promote educational tourism - Organization and implementation of targeted publicity actions, which will
are intended to inform the target groups, the final beneficiaries, but
and of the agencies involved in the project, so as to create the
suitable conditions for the sustainability of the results.
The implementation methodology of the act and the individual objectives are related to analysis
of existing status for the two destinations so that they are identified and
determine the educational topics and paths that will be included in
comprehensive service. This pilot application/service will include
different alternative routes, which will combine the cultural and the natural
interest in the eligible areas. Then it will be developed targeted
educational program, which in combination with the electronic application and
guide for the implementation of the program will contribute to the achievement of the second
special purpose.
The implementation has started in June 2021 and has a total duration of 24 months (until
May 2023). The act has a total budget of €1,711,672.00 and
co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by
National Resources of Greece and Cyprus. The act is implemented in the context of
Cross-Border Cooperation Program Interreg V-A Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020.
