The event of the Nicosia Tourism Board “Tourism for All – Enhancing accessibility in tourism” was successfully held, in the presence of organizations active in the field of accessibility and tourism.
The event was organized as part of the completion of the European Project FAST (Facilitating Accessibility in Support of Tourism) in which the Nicosia Tourism Board participated, together with partners from Cyprus, Greece, Portugal, Austria, and Slovenia.
During the event, the results of the European FAST program were presented, which was inspired by the need to provide a safer travel experience for travellers with disabilities. The goal of the program was to introduce the institution of the Accessible Travel Facilitator (ATF), a profession that will improve and facilitate the experience of visitors with a disability.
At the same time, Ms Stella Gavriel on behalf of the company Accessible Cyprus Travel presented the prospects of accessible tourism in Cyprus, while Ms Lelia Mylona, President of the Tourist Guides Association, referred to the role of tourist guides in Accessible Tourism.
The event ended with a guided tour of the centre of Nicosia, specially designed for people with mobility disabilities. The same tour will be repeated on December 3, 2022, International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Nicosia Tourism Board will continue to work and participate in actions that promote accessible tourism, to provide the optimum tourism services to people with disabilities.
