Kick-off meeting of the European Project DESTInE in Nicosia

The Nicosia Tourism Board (NTB) took part in the kick-off meeting of the European project DESTInE – Digital Empowerment for Sustainable Tourism and Innovation for Women Entrepreneurs in Rural Areas, held in Nicosia on 13–14 October 2025.

Funded by the Erasmus+ KA220-VET programme, DESTInE is a two-year project (October 2025 – September 2027) that brings together partners from four European countries. The initiative aims to strengthen the digital, professional, and entrepreneurial skills of women active in rural tourism. To achieve this, the project offers tailored capacity-building activities, mentoring, local workshops, and a digital learning platform designed to support personalised training pathways. Through these actions, DESTInE works to reduce the digital divide in rural areas and promote a more competitive and sustainable tourism sector.

DESTInE brings together six partners from four European countries: the Cypriot partners GrantXpert Consulting, which coordinates the project, the Nicosia Tourism Board, and Frederick University; Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania; Land Impresa Sociale in Italy; and KEK Technikes Sholes – the Heraklion Chamber Training Center in Greece.

Nicosia Tourism Board (NTB) encourages the participation of its vibrant community councils, including Community Council of Fikardou, Community Council of Gourri, Community Council of Farmakas, Community Council of Kampi, Community Council of Pachyammo, Council of Kato Pyrgos and all the other, which strengthen NTB’s rural outreach and local engagement.

DESTInE represents a further step in NTB’s ongoing commitment to advancing the digitalisation of the tourism sector, promoting innovation, and strengthening the competitiveness of local rural enterprises.

Through the project, NTB will support a growing number of women entrepreneurs and professionals in adopting digital tools and modern management models, enhancing the resilience and sustainable development of the rural entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Nicosia district.

At the same time, the initiative reinforces the Board’s strategic focus on supporting women’s entrepreneurship, recognised as a key driver of local economic development and rural revitalisation.
