Kicking off the GreenSET MEDSSIM Pilot in Nicosia

Over the past days, three SMEs — Nonna Rosa Pizzeria, Handmade in Cyprus, and Hermann Gourmet Cosmetics — joined us for an online introduction followed by an in-person group training. Together, we walked through the 5-step MEDSSIM methodology for sustainable service innovation, setting the foundation for an exciting journey ahead.

The sessions were delivered by Aggeliki Michael, EU Project Coordinator at Nicosia Tourism Board, who guided participants through the MEDSSIM process with a strong focus on practical application and collaboration. Her facilitation helped create an engaging environment where ideas could be openly shared and explored.

The training combined practical insights with interactive discussions, allowing participants to reflect on how their services can evolve in response to changing customer expectations and sustainability challenges. From understanding their internal strengths to identifying new opportunities and rethinking how value is created and delivered, the SMEs engaged deeply with each step of the methodology.

MEDSSIM provides a structured approach that supports businesses not only in generating ideas, but also in validating and implementing them in a way that is both economically viable and environmentally responsible. It encourages SMEs to rethink their services through the lenses of customer needs, local ecosystems, and long-term sustainability.

What made these sessions truly meaningful was the active participation and sincere interest of all three SMEs. Their openness to reflect, exchange ideas, and rethink their customer experience, sustainability practices, and business models created a collaborative and inspiring atmosphere.

We now look forward to the next steps of the pilot, where ideas will be further developed, tested, and refined. More meetings and training sessions are already planned, ensuring continuous support and collaboration throughout the process.

The goal is clear: to co-create greener, more valuable services that benefit not only visitors, but also the local community.

Stay tuned as the journey continues!
