The Center for the Promotion of Traditional Products of Cyprus presented for the first time to the public of Nicosia the event “Ziafetin in Choran” which was held with great success on Friday 30 December 2022. The original event had a bi-community character and its purpose was to bring the two communities closer through tradition, music and traditional products.
The word “ziafetin” is found in the depths of the Turkish, Persian and Arabic languages as a synonym for banquet, revelry and razzle. This is precisely the interpretation served by the event of the Center for the Promotion of Traditional Products of Cyprus, which motivated people to gather in Faneromeni Square and go wild with dance, music, traditional products and treats. The event was attended by Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot dance groups, dance clubs and local producers with products from both communities. People did not hesitate to spontaneously have fun and dance in the streets of the capital saying goodbye to 2022 in the best way.
Both the public and the organizers embraced the event “To Giafeti in Horan” by actively attending the celebration which brought together a large number of our fellow citizens as well as foreign visitors. The Center for the Promotion of Traditional Products of Cyprus thanks the Nicosia Tourism Development Company, the Cyprus Youth Organization, the Nicosia Municipality and the Cultural Services, the Association of Pedestrian Shopkeepers of Nicosia, the Faneromeni Church and the producers – its members who once again supported the event.
The aim of the Center since the first day of its operation is to highlight the rich tradition, the fine products and the leading producers of our country. After two years of restrictions due to the pandemic, this year it brought back the cultural events it organizes, presenting in 2022 the “Tradition Festival” in Kokkinotrimithia, “Rei Wine, Eufraini Wine” in Larnaca and “To Giafetin in Chora” in the center of Nicosia. The Center’s team is already preparing for the upcoming events and the new production collaborations with local and international producers and actors.
