{"id":25669,"date":"2026-03-18T12:41:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T10:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/?p=25669"},"modified":"2026-03-18T12:47:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T10:47:07","slug":"nicosia-tourism-board-explores-industrial-tourism-opportunities-in-the-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/el\/nicosia-tourism-board-explores-industrial-tourism-opportunities-in-the-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Nicosia Tourism Board explores industrial tourism opportunities in the Region\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Within the framework of the Interreg Europe project<a href=\"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/el\/eu-projectss\/eu-projects-industour\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/el\/eu-projectss\/eu-projects-industour\/\">\u00a0<strong>INDUSTOUR \u2013 Visiting Industrial Companies and Sites as a Growing Lever to Diversify Tourism Policies<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0the team of the Nicosia Tourism Board visited two local companies on Friday, 13 March 2025: Alion Vegetables &amp; Fruits Co Ltd and the\u00a0Papafilippou\u00a0Ice Cream Museum,\u00a0to explore opportunities for developing industrial tourism in the Nicosia region.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industrial tourism is not limited to former industrial sites such as mines or&nbsp;former&nbsp;factories but&nbsp;also includes visits to active companies and production facilities, offering visitors the opportunity to discover local industries and manufacturing processes. This approach helps diversify tourism products while creating educational experiences that connect visitors,&nbsp;especially younger generations, with local economic activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;Cyprus, particularly&nbsp;in&nbsp;the Nicosia region, where heavy industry is limited, sectors such as agriculture and food production&nbsp;offer&nbsp;a&nbsp;promising opportunity&nbsp;for developing sustainable and diversified industrial tourism experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Food Education and Agricultural Production at Alion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:35% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25670 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion-9x12.jpeg 9w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion-750x1000.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion-540x720.jpeg 540w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Alion.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Alion Vegetables &amp; Fruits Co Ltd\u00a0is based in Pera\u00a0Chorio, in the Nicosia district.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company has already integrated guided visits into its activities, offering educational tours that combine food education, awareness of sustainable agriculture and the importance of healthy nutrition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative was initially developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and regularly welcomes school groups, allowing students to better understand how food is produced,\u00a0handled,\u00a0and distributed, as well as the role of agriculture in everyday life.\u00a0Alion is now exploring ways to further expand and improve these visits by opening them to a broader audience and enhancing the visitor experience. Discussions during the visit also highlighted the company\u2019s use of digital tools\u00a0and\u00a0the potential to strengthen visitor services and reception infrastructure.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Discovering the history of ice cream in Cyprus<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:37% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25671 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou-9x12.jpeg 9w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou-750x1000.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou-540x720.jpeg 540w, https:\/\/ntb.org.cy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Papafilippou.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The\u00a0Papafilippou\u00a0Ice Cream Museum\u00a0represents\u00a0an\u00a0example of how a\u00a0production\u00a0site\u00a0can evolve into a structured industrial tourism experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum already welcomes\u00a0numerous\u00a0school\u00a0groups and\u00a0university students who visit the facility as part of educational activities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>During the visit, participants&nbsp;can&nbsp;observe&nbsp;the ice-cream production process and to explore the museum exhibition, which presents the history of ice cream and the development of the ice-cream industry in Europe, with a particular focus on Cyprus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum&nbsp;demonstrates&nbsp;significant potential to further develop into a diversified industrial tourism product.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Towards new industrial tourism products in Nicosia<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These meetings&nbsp;represented&nbsp;an important first step towards&nbsp;identifying&nbsp;opportunities for the development of industrial tourism in the Nicosia region.
