Strategic partnership aims to enhance innovation and diversify tourism across Europe
The Nicosia Tourism Board is proud to announce its participation in IndusTour, a newly launched Interreg Europe project focused on strengthening industrial tourism across the continent. The official kick-off meeting took place on May 7, 2025, marking the beginning of an ambitious four-year journey to reshape how industrial heritage and tourism intersect in regional policy-making.
Running from May 2025 to April 2029, IndusTour brings together a diverse consortium of regions and municipalities, with a shared mission to improve public policies that foster innovation, resilience, and diversification in tourism. For Nicosia, this partnership represents a significant opportunity to contribute to and benefit from transnational cooperation, while spotlighting the island’s evolving tourism narrative.
Industrial Tourism: A New Chapter for Nicosia
Industrial tourism – visiting sites related to manufacturing, production, and craftsmanship – is increasingly being recognized as a powerful tool for sustainable tourism development. It not only preserves and showcases local heritage, but also drives economic revitalization in lesser-known areas.
Through the IndusTour project, the Nicosia Tourism Board will collaborate closely with policy makers, stakeholders, and tourism professionals from across Europe. Together, they will undertake:
- National studies to assess the current status of industrial tourism
- Exchange of best practices between partners
- Participation in interregional events and thematic study visits
- Engagement with local stakeholder groups in Cyprus, helping to tailor strategies that reflect local needs and strengths
A Strong European Partnership
The project is led by the Auvergne-Rhone-Alps Region (France), with additional partners including:
- Toender Municipality (Denmark)
- Moravian-Silesian Region (Czech Republic)
- Lodzkie Region (Poland)
- Fund for European Affairs and Development of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (Serbia)
- ΕΤΑΠ Λευκωσίας (Cyprus)
In addition, the Provincial Secretariat for Economy and Tourism of Vojvodina και ΔΗΜΟΣ ΛΕΥΚΩΣΙΑΣ are involved as associated policy authorities, reinforcing the strategic focus on local governance and policy development.
EU Support and Vision
IndusTour is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Europe programme and boasts a total budget of €1.4 million. The project underscores the EU’s commitment to knowledge sharing and interregional collaboration, aiming to empower regions to craft smarter, more inclusive public policies.
For Nicosia, this initiative not only enhances its visibility on the European stage but also aligns with long-term goals to diversify its tourism offerings and promote sustainable, experience-based travel.
