As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable and regenerative tourism, the ΕΤΑΠ Λευκωσίας, which is a partner organization for the EU-funded Food Zone Project, is proud to announce the successful completion of our regional incubator program with local startup V.G. Freyia Labs Ltd.
This collaboration embodies the core mission of the Food Zone Project—to support regenerative food tourism across Europe, where food systems become a driver for ecological restoration, cultural preservation, and community engagement.
🌿 A Regenerative Culinary Journey
Freyia Labs, a Cyprus-based FoodTech company, specialises in probiotic, sustainable, and fermented foods. Through the incubator, they explored how fermentation can be more than a product—it can be a tool for storytelling, education, and regeneration.
From co-designing fermentation-based tourism experiences to embracing circular economy models, Freyia Labs developed concepts that reflect the deep interconnection between food, place, and sustainability.
👏 Celebrating Local Innovation
We commend Freyia Labs founders, Vasilis and Greta, for their inspiring work throughout the incubator. Their passion for regenerative practices and innovation has laid the groundwork for immersive experiences that align with both the Food Zone Project’s goals και Nicosia’s tourism strategy.
🎤 Testimonial from V.G. Freyia Labs
“Completing the Food Zone Project’s incubator provided valuable insights into regenerative culinary tourism and how food producers can create sustainable, immersive experiences. The programme reinforced the importance of regenerative practices—not just minimising harm but actively improving ecosystems, supporting local farmers, and using circular economy principles—all aligning with the mission of V.G. Freyia Labs Ltd (Freyia Labs).
A key takeaway was the co-design of food tourism experiences, integrating cultural heritage, sustainability, and education. This presents an opportunity for Freyia Labs to expand beyond products by introducing fermentation workshops, farm-to-ferment experiences, and eco-tourism collaborations that engage consumers while promoting sustainability.
Practical Applications at Freyia Labs:
- Exploring partnerships with sustainable tourism operators to introduce fermented food experiences
- Leveraging storytelling and digital tools to communicate the regenerative impact of fermentation
- Developing workshops and tastings that educate visitors on fermentation’s role in nutrition and sustainability
By applying these strategies, Freyia Labs can move beyond product sales and contribute to a regenerative food culture, where innovation, sustainability, and culinary experiences merge to create long-term positive impact.”
🚀 Looking Ahead
This success story illustrates how local producers and tourism bodies can work hand-in-hand to shape the future of travel—where every bite supports a better planet. ΕΤΑΠ Λευκωσίας remains committed to cultivating partnerships that support sustainable economic development, preserve cultural identity, and regenerate our shared environment.
