The Nicosia Tourism Board (NTB) announces the official completion of the territorial analysis phase of the Erasmus + project Hands Across Generations – Preserving Intangible Heritage through Intergenerational Craft Exchange for Cyprus.
This milestone has led to the Cyprus National Report, a key project output that maps the current state of traditional craftsmanship, identifies main challenges, and highlights opportunities for intergenerational transmission, digitalisation and sustainable development in the sector. It marks the conclusion of the territorial analysis of the Cypriot craft sector.

The National Report is the outcome of a structured, multi-level research process articulated in three main components: a desk research based on official data, policy documents, and institutional publications at national and European level; a questionnaire survey addressed to local artisans carried out to collect both qualitative and quantitative insights into skills, needs, practices, and future perspectives within the craft sector in the island; finally, a focus group held on 28 January 2026 at the Stes Korues café, in the heart of Nicosia Old Town, which brought together experienced handcrafters and younger artisans.
The analysis also identifies several areas of competence that are particularly relevant to the sector’s future:
- The intergenerational transmission of knowledge;
- Digital skills related to the promotion and commercialization of products;
- Entrepreneurial competencies;
- A structured understanding of the principles of environmental sustainability.
The findings of the Cyprus National Report will now serve as a solid foundation for the next phases of the Hands Across Generations project, informing the design and implementation of intergenerational workshops, targeted digital skills training for artisans, and sustainability-oriented initiatives, such as a practical workshop on upcycling and recycling, at the national and European levels.
